Walter "Dick" Plain, 75, died unexpectedly at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale on Monday, March 14, 2016. Born in Tyler Hill, Pa he was the son of the late Walter W. and Eloise Alfast Plain. Dick graduated from Damascus High SChool in 1958 and was a graduate and alumnus of Gettysburg University. He was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and the Delaware Lodge #561 F and AM Callicoon, NY. He was an avid fan of baseball and often purchased season tickets to attend the Phillies Baseball games. Dick loved small animals, especially cats, and was an active supporter and advocate of Dessin Animal Shelter in Honesdale. He loved model trains and railroad history and spent many summers with his daughters traveling throughout the United States. He also loved music of all genres and boasted a collection of over 300 8-track cassettes. Due to a degenerative eye condition in recent years he was unable to pursue many of the aforementioned interests but was still able to follow his favorite baseball team. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws: Julia and Andrew Burger, Rome, NY and Jennifer L. and Stephen J. Motichka, Tyler Hill, Pa; a partner of 15 years, Sana Kessinger, NY; 7 grandchildren:Joelee Motichka ,Jenna Motichka, Paul R. Szwaka, Stacey Szwaka, and Matthew Szwaka, Alexandria Burger and Alea Burger. He was preceded in death by a brother: Nelson A. Plain. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the Damascus United Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Blackie officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery Damascus. Friends may visit from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale. There will be a Masonic service at 6:45pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions Dick's are asked to be directed to the Dessin Animal Shelter , 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.
