Lois Mae Beardsley, 86, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at home in Leola, PA, on Friday, September 16, 2016, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on January 22, 1930 in Smith Hill, daughter of the late Walter and Blanche Bates Brill. She was a 1948 graduate of Honesdale High School and worked for 40 years at Katz Underwear Factory. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. In 1948 she married Charles E. Beardsley, and for 38 years they led a very loving and active life, until his death in 1986. They traveled extensively, flying in his small plane across country one time and taking the Winnebago another. They traveled to Hawaii several times where she loved to go deep sea fishing. She was a great fisherman and hunter, often beating the men! She and Chuck were members of the Rare Squares, a modern square dancing club, and danced every Saturday night for many years. They were also founding members of the Lake and Brook Association where she spent much time helping with fundraisers and family celebrations. As a widow, she remained very active. She enjoyed oil painting, winning many ribbons at the Wayne County Fair. Many people will remember Lois doing her country line dancing at the fair. Even with Alzheimer's, when the steps didn't come as easily, she still danced. She loved to sew, especially for the grandkids. She wrote poetry. She enjoyed quilting, and many family members treasure her gifts. She also spent much time caring for more elderly friends. She did a wonderful job sharing her love and will be greatly missed by all. She was the loving mother of Elaine Pencek and her companion, Thomas Garrett, with whom she resided. She was grandmother to Kassia Pencek, Leola; Edward (Ted) Pencek, Texas; and Clayton Pencek, Washington, DC. She was great-grandmother (GG) to Sarah Moreno Pencek, Texas.
