Gladys M. Engvaldsen, 90, of Honesdale died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in the Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home, Lake Ariel, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey N. Engvaldsen. Born on June 15, 1921 in Plains, PA she was the daughter of the late John and Maude Gertrude Soden Phillips. Gladys was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Honesdale. For nearly 19 years she worked for Kolmar Labs on the assembly line. Gladys was a faithful volunteer for Wayne Memorial Hospital and the Head Start Program. She was known as Grandma Gladys at the former Stourbridge Elementary School, where she enjoyed visiting and reading to the students. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous love and care that Gladys received during her time as a resident at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo in Lake Ariel. She is survived by four daughters: Carol Patroni and her husband Joe of Shohola, Karen Day and her husband Eddie of Honesdale, Alice Frolio of Campball Hall, NY; and Trudy Biccum and her husband David of Matamoras; and one nephew: Edward Akins of Brooklyn, NY; six grandchildren: Michele Polanis and her husband Gary, Walter Kleinhans, Dr. Tracy Sanchez and her husband Edmundo, Dr. Stephen Day, Rebecca Biccum, and Emily Biccum; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Adaline Akins. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2011. Friends may visit on Friday, November 11, 2011 from 4:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Rowlands Cemetery at a later date. www.bryantfuneralhome.com
