George H. Rivenburg passed away Friday, March 2, 2018. He was born in Preston Park, PA on February 8, 1929 the son of the late David Robert Rivenburg and late Milinda Necle. George's foster mother was the late Leila Tiel Hiller. George graduated from Honesdale High School Class of 1947. George worked as caretaker of Lake Bryn Mawr Camp for over 60 years. In the past he also worked as an Oregon Township supervisor and was President of the East Dyberry Cemetery Association. In his younger days George enjoyed hunting, bowling, making maple syrup, raising bees for honey and raising chickens and a couple of cows. He has always had a vegetable garden and shared food with the local food pantry. He also grew beautiful flowers inside and outside of his house. He loved feeding and watching the birds, deer and black squirrels that visited his yard. George was a man of faith and very active in the Bethany United Methodist Church and Bible studies. At one time he was a Lay Leader in the church. He also took pride in raising money for the church by selling the most Chicken BBQ tickets. He is survived by a sister, Eleanor Brown of Palestine, Texas; a sister-in-law Mary Catherine Rivenburg of Maryland; his daugther, Mary Kipp and husband Larry of Hawley; a son, David G. Rivenburg of Honesdale and his companion Leann Danko; three grandsons, Alan French, Jason Kipp and Dustin Rivenburg and wife Tiffany of Beach Lake; a granddaughter Kassandra Rivenburg Shoup and husband Steven of Dingmans Ferry; two great granddaughters, Katie French and Maureen French of Greentown, Pa; two g reat grandsons, Ethan Rivenburg Shoup and Brody Rivenburg Shoup of Dingmans Ferry, and his beloved cat, Tommy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Collins Rivenburg; his daughter Donna Rivenburg Smith; his daugther, Betty Rivenburg Sweeney and a daughter in law, Penny Nordenhold Rivenburg. A visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 9th from 5 PM to 7 PM.at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main Street Honesdale, Pa A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Small officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bethany United Methodist Church , 3 Court Street Bethany, Pa 18431 or a food pantry of your choice. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street Honesdale, Pa 18431
