Shirley T. Reed, 87 of Bethany died at home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at home after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon H. Reed in 2005. Born April 6, 1924 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Emma Thompson Sargent. Shirley was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and helped to prepare and serve many meals. She was also involved in the "Crazy Quilts," helping to make hundreds of quilts over the years. Shirley was a 4-H leader and worked at the Wayne County Livestock Exchange in Honesdale as Clerk and Bookkeeper. She helped in the family business, L.H. Reed and Sons serving as the Secretary of the business. Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband, and was able to visit every state in the continental United States. She greatly supported her husband in the 19 years he served as a Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. She was an avid gardener and homemaker. Shirley will be remembered as a dedicated mother and grandmother. She is survived by four children: Sandra Villard of Easton, PA, Jeffrey Reed and his wife Barbara of Cherry Ridge, Stephen Reed and his wife Cindy of Bethany, and Douglas Reed and his wife Bonnie of DeKalb Junction, NY; ten grand-children, and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: Everett, Bob, Frank, Charles, Jack, and a sister, Alice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at the Bethany United Methodist Church, Bethany PA. Friends may visit on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. Memorial Contributions may be made in Shirley's memory to Bethany United Methodist Church, Bethany, PA 18431. Interment will be in Bethany Cemetery, Bethany. www.bryantfuneralhome.com
