Donald Ralph Van Gorder, age 90, of Honesdale passed away July 3 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife , the former Barbara Marsh in 2006. Don was born in Beach Lake to Ralph and Lola(Richards) Van Gorder on December 9, 1926. He graduated from Honesdale High School in 1944, and joined the United States Navy. After the war, he returned to Honesdale and joined his father in the family furniture business. He enjoyed many different sports and hobbies, and participated in numerous community organizations. Above all, he was a devoted husband who adored his wife Barbara and a loving father to his three sons. Don is survived by three sons and their wives: Scott and his wife Beth, Steve his wife Lynn, and Jack and his wife Amanda; sisters Dolores and Phyllis; grandchildren Derek, Dylan, Max, Fiona, and Jeremy; great grandchildren Gregory, Jackson, Hannah, Matilda, Beatrix, and Henry. In addition to his wife Barbara, he was preceded in death by his brother Duane, and his granddaughter Vanessa. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who truly loved him. A memorial service will be held at the Central United Methodist Church of Honesdale Monday morning, July 10, at 11 o'clock. Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Friends may visit at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Central United Methodist Church, Church Street Honesdale, Pa 18431.
