Harold D Wood of Damascus, PA passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the age of 71, surrounded by his family.

Born Tuesday, October 27, 1953 in Callicoon, NY, Harold was the son of the late Donald A. and Florence A. (Day) Wood.

Harold grew up on the family dairy farm in Abrahamsville, PA. He soon realized his true passion for excavation; working with his father, at first, and later starting Wood Excavation & Construction Inc in 1972. While on an early job, he met and fell in love with his lifelong love, Denise (Quinn) at the age of 18. They married in 1974 and soon after had son, Keith and daughter, Emily. He went on to run the business for 53 years, eventually, with his son, until his passing.

He was devoted to his community and neighbors; many becoming as close as family through the years. Many would call upon him for help and without hesitation he would come to their aid, sporting his signature bucket hat. He was a talented problem solver with a huge heart.

His devotion to his community was most apparent with his dedication to the Equinunk Volunteer Fire Company; joining in 1974, after a fire destroyed his home. In his years as a member, he served as the deputy fire marshal, treasurer, director and most notably chief for 10 years. Each July he could be found at their annual chicken BBQ and every December at the annual turkey party. He was also a member of the Christ Community Church of Abrahamsville.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting and spending time with friends and family. He especially loved spending time with his two granddaughters; Liv and Abby. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family; making several trips to Montana, Florida, Hawaii, California and many places in between.

Surviving are his wife, Denise, daughter Emily Wood, son Keith Wood and his wife Christina; two granddaughters Olivia and Abigail; one sister, Ruth M. Swendsen; two brothers, Raymond L. Wood (wife Wendy) and Ronald L. Wood (wife Stephanie); a brother-in-law John Moss; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister Nancy A. Moss.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 N. Main St., Honesdale.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 11 AM at the Equinunk Volunteer Fire Company Lookout Fire Hall (Downstairs), 2625 Hancock Highway, Equinunk, PA 18417. Celebration of life luncheon to follow.

Interment will be at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery in Galilee, PA.
