A life well lived. Cord Clarence Meyer Sr., 85, of Equinunk, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Geisinger-CMC in Scranton.
Born July 4, 1940, in Carbondale Clarence was the eldest child of the late Cord “Buster” Meyer and Roberta Schweighofer Meyer. He graduated from Damascus High School in 1958 and proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he worked as a mechanic, deployed to Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1964 with a Good Conduct Medal.
A true businessman at heart, Clarence's career spanned many ventures. He began as a milk route delivery driver before hauling lumber for his family's business. His lifelong passion for agticulture led him into dairy farming, trucking, livestock trading, and even racehorse ownership. He was best known as the owner and operator of C & S Stables of Equinunk, where he spent countless hours trail riding, trading horses, and providing horses for summer camps.
Clarence's leadership and charisma were evident early on he served as student council president in high school and was voted "Best Dressed," "Most Popular," and "Best Personality." He carried those qualities throughout his life. He loved playing in a band and dancing. He had a deep appreciation for horses, always keeping a draft horse ready to pull a wagon or sleigh. Generous to the core, Clarence was known for his gift of giving- whether supporting local chicken BBQs or ensuring those around him were well fed and cared for.
Clarence is survived by his devoted wife, Suzanne (Karp) Meyer; six children, Cynthia Ferguson, Donald Meyer, Cord Meyer, Beth Salzameda, Timothy Meyer, and Amanda Rutledge; 14 grandchildren; Katie Ferguson-lacovelli, Daniel Ferguson, Jennifer Vaughn, Casandra Meyer, Alicia Meyer, Chelsea Decaire, Alexa Meyer, Navarah Meyer, Jessica Pachuta, Steven Pachuta, Kally Pachuta, Ryder Rutledge, Kinsley Rutledge, and Kailey Rutledge 4 great-grandchildren; Anna Vaughn, Caly Vaughn, Meyer Decaire, and Jacques Decaire and brother-in-law Paul Marquis.
He was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Marquis and nephew Jay Marquis.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 5-7 PM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 N. Main St, Honesdale, A Celebration of Life Service will follow on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Equinunk Volunteer Fire Company Lookout Station, 2625 Hancock Highway, Equinunk, PA.
