Annaliese Knapp Obituary
Annaliese (Vaihinger) Knapp, 95, of Honesdale, entered into eternal life on March 12, 2026 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Ivan Knapp on June 4, 2025.
Born August 12, 1930 in Liberty, NY she was the daughter of the late Fritz and Louise (Bohlman) Vaihinger. She had an idyllic childhood growing up near Grossinger’s Resort where her father worked as head chef and her mother was the dining room hostess. She had many fond memories of attending summer camps and enjoyed ice skating, speed skating, golf, and horseback riding.
Annaliese attended Becker Jr. College in MA for 1 year studying secretarial skills. She worked for a lawyer in Liberty and as secretary for a middle school before becoming a full-time homemaker.
She married Gordon Knapp, June 16, 1956 and together they raised two girls.
She was active with Girl Scouts, the Alert Auxiliary, and was a “Gray Lady” (a volunteer at Wayne Memorial Hosptial). She was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of “Needles” sewing sleeping bags for the homeless. Annaliese enjoyed many good times with church family and neighborhood friends and will be remembered for making the holidays special with her décor and cooking. Gardening and flowers brought her great joy.
In her later years she was blessed to have traveled many places with a favorite trip being to Hawaii. She was a Penn State fan and enjoyed watching many sports. She especially loved family reunions at the Central House, but the true joy in her life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Annaliese had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful storyteller. She loved to make people laugh
Surviving are two daughters, Laura (Knapp) Ruddy and her husband Sean of Lake Ariel, and Lisa (Knapp) Hutchison and her husband Bruce of Bethany; three grandchildren, Julie Hutchison and her partner Justen Ganson, James Hutchison, and Shane Ruddy; four great-grandchildren Quenten, Nataly, Mykaela, and Camren Ganson; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 10 – 11 AM at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 107 7th St., Honesdale, with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM with Rev. Adam Reinhardt officiating.
Interment will follow in Glen Dyberry Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Bethany Village and Ellen Memorial for the excellent care she received while a resident there.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church WELCA (Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America), or to the Lisa Dennis Scholarship Fund, both c/o St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address.
