Sharon Marie Gunuskey Obituary

Sharon Gunuskey, 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Carbondale on March 1, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Rolland and Shirley Dunn Olver. Sharon was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1966. After High School, Sharon worked at Katz Department Store as a bookkeeper. Later, she opened and ran an in-home daycare service. When her children became school age, Sharon worked as an optician and office manager for Honesdale Eye Associates for 34 years.

Sharon was the current Treasurer of the Texas #4 Fire Company and President of the Texas #4 Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Sharon was also a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church having served on choir, Sunday School teacher, and past treasurer.

Sharon’s greatest joy in life was her family. Nothing meant more to her than her children and grandchildren, who were truly the center of her world. She poured her love into every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be cherished forever. The holidays, especially Christmas, were the times she held most dear—no one embraced the magic, warmth, and spirit of the season quite like she did. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and tradition, and those moments together will remain one of her most beautiful legacies.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Glen Gunuskey and her three children Beth Amy Hopkins and her life partner Peter Nallin, Kevin Gunuskey and wife Leslie, and Keith Gunuskey and wife Mariann. Sharon will remain in the hearts of her grandchildren, Zackary, Max, Brooke Hopkins, Amanda, Kyler, Katie, Emily, and Seth Gunuskey. Also surviving are her three sisters Kathy Dulay and husband Rick, Linda Miller and husband Robert, Terry Lawrence and husband Ron, a stepbrother Stuart Olver, a brother-in-law Gary Gunuskey and wife Gail, and an Aunt Beverly Dunn Perry, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sharon was predeceased by a stepsister, Robin Williams and brother-in-law, Brian Gunuskey.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14th at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, followed by her funeral service at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Texas #4 Fire Company, PO Box 1065, Honesdale, PA 18431 or the Bethany Presbyterian Church, 431 Wayne Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.
