Janice Ellen Matthews Obituary

Janice Ellen Matthews, 78, of Honesdale and Duryea, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026 surrounded by her children at Green Ridge Care Center, Scranton after a long battle with dementia.

Born November 18, 1947, in Honesdale she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Lesher) Morgan.

She graduated from Honesdale High School in 1965 and attended trade school to become a phlebotomist. Janice worked in the health food industry for many years and later owned a local Health Food Store. She was passionate about holistic health and wellness. Janice enjoyed long rides in the surrounding countryside. She hardly ever passed up a movie, good or bad. She loved her 60’s music and in her later years, she was known to break out and dance when she would hear her favorites. She was drawn to the water and was up to head to the mall for a lite round of shopping, as well as the occasional sweet treat. Janice would say motherhood was her proudest achievement and would tell her children often. She enjoyed her plants as well as herb gardening. Janice had a “nose for news”, would get her fix with the daily local as well as national news, having had strong opinions on who was and wasn’t governing correctly.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale and was very active in her early years.

Surviving are two children, Traci Hall of Bethany and Brian Matthews and wife Shanna of FL; two grandchildren, Amaya and Brayden Hall; two brothers Jeff (Susan) Morgan and William Morgan; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother Tom Morgan, son in law John Hall and her companion of 30 years Michael Fedor.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 10-11 AM at the Arthur A Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 N. Main St., Honesdale, PA with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM.
