Shawn Veysey Obituary
We are deeply saddened to share that Shawn Michael Veysey, age 62, of Honesdale, PA passed away peacefully, to be with Jesus, from Geisinger Hospital in Scranton, on June 26, 2026.
Shawn championed, with massive perseverance and dignity, over one year of cancer treatments, before passing unexpectedly, from medical complications, while in the hospital for a planned procedure.
Shawn was a man of quiet strength and determination who enjoyed simple pleasures in life. Known for his incredible work ethic, he worked faithfully throughout his illness, scheduling, whenever possible, his medical treatments for his days off, in order to not miss a shift.
He was a true woodworker, craftsman and artist at heart, always happiest when working with his hands or helping others. He enjoyed making things for his family and many friends, from cabinets to inlaid work tables, to finely made boxes, cutting boards or wooden spoons, to name a few. He also enjoyed restoring old furniture pieces to their former glory.
When he wasn't working or building, Shawn found peace and joy in the things he loved, his artwork, his lifelong love of motorcycles, riding with the Christian Motorcycle Association, driving his old Ford truck, classic country music, classical music and hymns, casting a line while fishing, cooking or grilling with family and friends, building outdoor smokers for great backyard barbecue, learning always new recipes from cooking shows or lathe techniques for woodworking.
Shawn moved to the northeastern Pennsylvania Poconos Mountain region in December, 2021, purchasing a vintage home in Honesdale, PA.
In nearby Hawley, PA, he found good employment as a building maintenance worker at Woodloch Resort. He made many friends at Woodloch. This was customary almost any place he went. Many say of Shawn, "He was my friend." Shawn attended weekly services at First Baptist Church in Hawley and gained additional friends and family there.
During his thirty two years living in Bradenton, Shawn worked in mobile home repair and fertilizer delivery, followed by twenty years of fuel delivery employment. He was a proud and professional fuel driver, specializing in delivery of critical diesel fuel to commercial businesses, marinas and hospitals in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. When hurricanes struck Florida, he worked tirelessly with his crew on the frontline of relief efforts. He drove steadily, with long hours in the elements to ensure emergency generators and rescue operations never ran out of fuel, truly keeping everyone running when they needed it the most.
Shawn was born in Springfield, VT on May 16, 1964. He graduated Springfield High School in 1982. He is predeceased by his father, Duane Veysey in 1982 and his mother, Freida (Smith) Leneau in 2020.
Shawn leaves behind his wife of twenty seven years, Marie Veysey of Honesdale, PA and his stepson, Peter Jenkins (and wife Havva) of Brooklyn, NY, two brothers, Sydney (and wife, Cyndy) Veysey and Keith Veysey, a nephew Brad (and wife, Jennelyn) Veysey and family, an aunt, three uncles and several cousins.
We take solace in knowing Shawn has been called to eternal rest and joy in Jesus, where there is no more pain or suffering.
A private family graveside service will be held in Shawn's home state of Vermont.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this time.
