Harold “Hoppy” Lynn Hopkins, 92, formerly of Tyler Hill, PA, passed away on August 19, 2026 at Ellen Memorial Health Care in Honesdale, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Rutledge) Hopkins on November 5, 2024. The couple were married on April 3, 1954.

He was born on May 14, 1934 in Rileyville, PA to the late Lynn and Edna Gillette Hopkins. He attended Damascus High School, where he played basketball, and graduated in 1952.

He was raised on a farm but decided to pursue a different occupation. In 1958, he purchased a blacksmith shop in Tyler Hill and worked on teaching himself to become a welder, and formed Hopkins Welding. Later in life he passed his talent to his son, Jake. This gift of his trade led him to become very respected and a friend to many. He could fix anything. He was also known for tearing down and rebuilding farm silos. He and Betty were both founding members of the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corp. He was always lending a hand for everyone in the community, from thawing frozen pipes to giving boys a ride to a game. He devoted countless hours to Delaware Valley Little League and Damascus Teeners baseball for 30 years, including helping build the fields. He was inducted into the Wayne County Hall of Fame in 1997.

He loved music and used to play the bass fiddle in a band and loved to get on the dance floor and show off his moves. He was passionate about hunting and did it into his 80’s. It brought him great joy to attend his children and grandchildren’s sporting events endlessly, and enjoyed the camaraderie of the other spectators. All that knew him, knew his laugh was infectious.

Hoppy is survived by his children, Donald (Patti) of Scranton, Rosanne (Charles) Alexander of Rileyville, John (Linda) of Windsor, NY, Mark (Carol) of Rileyville, Nancy (Ed) Hart of Honesdale and daughter in law Holly of Tyler Hill. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sandy (Frank) Hartzel and sister in laws, Jeri Hopkins and MaryEllen Rutledge. Many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by son Jerry (Jake), sister Marie Diehl and husband Robert (Big Diehl as he called him), Paul Hopkins (his big little brother) and wife Linda.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1st at Bryant Funeral Home at 10 am with interment following in Hillside Cemetery in Damascus. Friends may visit on Monday, August 31st, from 4-7pm at the Arthur A Bryant Funeral Home 1228 N. Main St., Honesdale.
