Joan E. Francis of Hawley died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Geisinger CMC Hospital in Scranton. She is survived by her husband Forrest S. Francis. Joan was born in Staten Island, NY on December 9, 1939 the daughter of Wesley and Majory Malcolm Shull. Joan most recently worked as an administrator at the Middletown Day Care in Middletown, NY. Prior to that Joan was in the medical research industry and she was also a computer instructor in Newburgh, NY. She was active in Handcrafts especially soap making, needlework, and quilting. Joan loved to garden and raised chickens and sold eggs. She had a very strong Christian faith. In addition to her husband Joan is survived by her daughters, Susan Alfalla of Woodbourne, NY and Carol Black of Glen Wild, NY; grand children,Terry Alfalla of Middletown, NY, Julie Whitley and her husband Brent of Pine Bush, NY, Rachel Crowl and her husband Justin of NCarolina, Jonathan Black of Glen Wild, NY, and Danielle Black of Monticello, NY; great grandchildren Daniel, Delanie, Griffyn, Hunter, Sean, Carter, Riley, Cameron, Jacoby. Joan is preceded in death by a sister Marjory Miller and two grandchildren Anthony Alfalla, Jr and Michael Alfalla A Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale with the Rev. Lloyd Canfield officiating. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street Honesdale, Pa .
