Obituary of Ruth C. Schuman

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth C. Schuman of Damascus passed away on Monday, June 19th, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 and a half years, Orvis M. Schuman. Ruth was born in Childs, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1932, to the late Rexford and Helen Fife Oakley. Ruth was a doting wife, loving mother , and beloved friend, grandmother and sister. She came into this world as a coal miner's daughter, one of 19 children. From there, Ruth not only met and fell in love, but built a beautiful life while touching the hearts of so many. Ruth was a phenomenal and resourceful chef, taking the skills necessary to put food on the table for nine children and channeling it into many years of service at Wayne Memorial Hospital as a cook. When not working in the kitchen, she and Orvis ran a successful dairy farm. Ruth was no stranger to welcoming people to her dinner table, and often the meal consisted entirely of ingredients grown and cared for on their farm. Ruth was a devoted child of God, and lived her life in faith. She was a long time member of the Abrahamsville United Methodist Church and her kindness and lively demeanor had a way of drawing all the energy towards her in any room. Though her absence in this world is a terrible loss to all that knew her, find solace in that Ruth is reunited with the Lord and her beloved "Orv" in eternal peace. Ruth is survived by four sons, John Schuman of Damascus, Ronald and Cheryl Schuman of South Carolina, Orvis Jr. and Teresa Schuman of Equinunk, and Walter Schuman of Damascus; and five daughters, Dale Roche of Damascus, Chris Lohr and her husband Randy of Callicoon, Penny Musso and her husband Patrick of Kadosha, NY, Kerry Wilcox of Damascus, Kelly Crawson and her husband Timothy of Long Eddy, NY. She is also survived by her siblings, Gail Cosklo, Margie Skinner, Ellen Morcom and Donald Oakley. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be made to Equinunk Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of Wayne County " I stayed in the garden with Him Though the night all around me is falling But He bids me go, through the voice of woe His voice to me is calling "
