Walter Ostrander, 81, of Beach Lake, PA, died Tuesday morning, August 28, 2012 at home after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Jean Highhouse. Born July 7, 1931 in Boyd's Mills, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Young Ostrander. Following graduation from Damascus High School, Walter served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church where he served as an usher, trustee and as a part of the Pastor's Cabinet. Walter owned and operated a family dairy farm in Beach Lake, where he also operated an apple orchard and cider mill. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Walter was also a member of the NRA. He is also survived by four children: Steve Ostrander and his wife Kathy, Charles Ostrander and his wife Donna, and Mark Ostrander and his wife Susan all of Beach Lake, and Sharon Bates of Allentown; a brother, Larry Ostrander of Gillett, PA, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Grace Tallman, George Ostrander, and Elwin Ostrander; and a grand-daughter, Nicole Amber Bates. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Freet officiating. Friends may visit on Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. In leiu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter's memory to the Home Health and Hospice, Eynon, PA or the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church, Beach Lake, PA. Interment with Military Honors will be Friday in Beach Lake Cemetery, Beach Lake.
