John R. Bonham, Sr., 83, of Dyberry Township, Honesdale, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 in the Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. Born on September 26, 1929 in Steene, he was the son of the late John R. Bonham, Sr. and Tillie Mozeliak Bonham. John was the proprietor of John R. Bonham Construction from 1957 to June of 1996 and John R. Bonham Road Equipment and Supply from 1964 to 1997. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church. John was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #88, Anthony Wayne Chapter #204, and the Knights Templar #89. In addition to these organizations, John also belonged to the Wayne Pike Shrine Club, Irem Temple of Wilkes Barre, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge, Honesdale Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #218, the Beech Grove Grange and the Apollo Club. John was happiest on his farm where he enjoyed tending to his cows, fixing fences, riding 4 wheelers and tractors, and haying. He had a genuine love and respect for the great outdoors, nature, and animals- especially his black lab, "Bonnie." He was a father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be greatly missed. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, love, and generosity that he had for his family and friends. He is survived by three children: Brenda Schwab and her husband Michael, Nancy Cush and her husband Thomas, and John Bonham, Jr. and his wife Sylvia, all of Honesdale; a sister: Alice Kimble of Bethany; two brothers: James Bonham and his wife Vonnie of Bethany, and Harold (Bob) Bonham and his wife Ruth of Dyberry Township; three grandchildren: Nicole Cush, Luke Schwab and Jesse Schwab and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eva Parker. In accordance with his wishes, following cremation, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Bethany Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in John's memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children of Philadelphia, 3551 N Broad St Philadelphia, PA 19140, or the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
