Viola Louise Scull Marshall, age 89, formerly a resident of Seelyville, PA was welcomed into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, while a resident at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, PA. Her husband Harvey predeceased her in October 1967. Born September 6, 1923 in Carbondale PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Florence Shaffer Scull. She graduated from Carbondale High School and moved to Newark, New Jersey where she did administrative work for one year. She met her love, Harvey, and they married and established their home in Carbondale. In the early 1950's they moved to Seelyville PA. Vi worked for Honesdale TV from 1967 until her retirement in 1989. Vi became very active in the Seelyville Sunday School, where she formed the Chapel Choirs. God blessed her with a beautiful singing voice and she loved to sing God's praises. Everyone was blessed by her love of music. A long time dedicated member of The Sunbeam-Willing Worker's Class she the "star" seller of dishcloths to raise funds for the Class. Vi held many positions in the Sunday School and especially enjoyed her tenure as teacher of the Teenagers Class. She was a Charter Member of the Seelyville Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary, having dedicated many hours of working in the kitchen for the various dinners served as fund raisers. Her hobbies included writing letters, baking, creating beautiful embroidered heirlooms and "excelling" at being a friend to everyone. She showed great courage in overcoming her health challenges and her daily life struggles. Vi maintained a strong will to "keep on going". She never lost her kind spirit and the joy of the Lord in her heart. She was able to laugh even in the most challenging times. A truly dedicated mother, Vi suffered the loss of her two children, son Alan R. Marshall in 2004 and daughter, Barbara Sprague in 2006. She is survived by her son-in-law Paul Sprague, daughter-in-law Carol Marshall; grandson Donald Sprague and wife Anna, of Canada, and great-grandchildren Andrew and Matthew; brother Raymond Scull, and his wife Rosella and nieces and nephew, Sandi, Bonnie and Ron Scull; cousins Fred and Helen Gerrity. Her family would like to thank her caregivers and doctors for her excellent care at Wayne Woodlands Manor. Also her wonderful neighbors and friends for their caring thoughts, prayers, and visits throughout the years. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA. Interment will be in Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart. Officiating will be George A. Piercy. Friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made in Viola's memory to the Seelyville Fire Company 1200 Bridge Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 or the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale.
