Lester A. Odell, 100, of Honesdale, died Saturday evening, May 11, 2013 in the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther G. Fleming Odell. Born on June 19, 1912 in Aldenville, he was the son of the late Ernest Odell and Frances Dieterich Odell Lillie. Lester was raised on the family farm in Prompton. He was an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Agency for many years. Lester was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and served as a chairman of the trustees for the church. He was a member of the Seelyville Union Chapel; he was also a member of the Beech Grove Grange. Lester became a member of the Honesdale F&A Masons, Lodge No. 281 in 1944 and served as Worshipful Master in 1954. He was a member of the Anthony Wayne Chapter No. 204 Royal Arch Masons, Savona Commandery No. 89 Knights Templar, Scranton Council No. 44 Royal and Select Master Masons, Irem Shrine Temple, and the Wayne-Pike Shrine Club. Lester served as the District Deputy Grand Master of Fourteenth Masonic District of Pennsylvania from 1974-1985. In 2012, the Shrine Bowl football game sponsored by Wayne Pike Shrine Club was dedicated in his honor. Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing and refinishing furniture. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by three children: Miriam Hoefflin and her husband Ralph Pippenger of Dayton, Ohio, Roger Odell of Honesdale, and Susan Gladeck of McLean, Virginia; a sister, Lois Odell of New York City; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Carl F. Odell. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the sanctuary of the Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale with the Rev. Robert Kazinski officiating. A Masonic Service will also be held at this time. Friends may visit immediately following the services at the church. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Central United Methodist Church Trustee Department, Honesdale, or to the Shiners' Children's Hospital, Philadelphia.
