David R. McElroy, 74, of Honesdale, died Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Weidner McElroy. Born on April 6, 1939 in Tanners Falls, he was the son of the late David and Marion (Osheski) McElroy. David and Marilyn graduated together from the Honesdale High School, Class of 1959. They were married in 1965. David served in the United States Navy. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale. David was a former member of the Elks Lodge; and he was an avid NASCAR fan. He worked for many years at the Wayne Highland School District in the maintenance department. Above all, he enjoyed his family and spending time with them at family gatherings. He was very proud of his beloved granddaughter, Kacie Johannes. He is also survived by three children: Laurie L. Schwab and her husband Pat of Honesdale, Kelli Lateer and her husband John of Honesdale, and Mark McElroy of State College, PA; one grandchild, Kacie Johannes; and two brothers: William McElroy and his wife Linda, and Lynn McElroy and his wife Diane, all of Honesdale; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale with Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter officiating. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be held in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Honesdale. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
