Obituary of Clarence J. Miller

Clarence J. Miller, 92, of Honesdale, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 in the Regional Hospital of Scranton, Scranton. He was married to the late Margaret Williams Miller who died on April 9, 2006. Clarence was born on April 17, 1921 in Cherry Ridge; he was the son of the late George and Grace (Martin) Miller. Clarence served in the United States Army. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for many years. Clarence was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and of Texas No. 4 Fire Company. He also belonged to the VFW in Honesdale. Clarence worked for Lumus, Yuba, and the Doyle & Roth Company from which he retired in 1986. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; he also enjoyed playing golf. A member of the Wayne County Area Sports Hall of Fame, Clarence had the distinction of playing softball for Herzog's, Saddlebrook, Traveler's Inn, Cherry Ridge, the J&R Fawn, and the Waymart Hotel. He played on the horseshoe teams for the J&R Fawn and Jake's; and the Agway bowling league. He enjoyed his grandchildren; and especially enjoyed playing on the floor with his great grandchildren. He is survived by four daughters, Sally J. Tulley of Oregon City, OR, Donna L. Weist and husband Andrew of Honesdale, Joy A. Granquist and husband Glenn, Honesdale, Pamela A. Ropke and husband Scott, Narrowsbburg, NY; a sister in law, Regina Miller of Syracuse, NY; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sisters and their spouses: Evelyn Short and her husband Edgar, Jeanette Short and her husband Richard, Marjorie Benjamin and her husband Ivan; brothers and their wives: Walter and his wife Helen, Russell and his wife Clementine, Richard and his wife Murial; and Robert. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home,1228 North Main Street Honesdale, with Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, October 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial will be Friday in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, Indian Orchard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roofing Fund of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
