Obituary of Christian B. Striffler

Please share a memory of Christian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Christian "Chris" Banta Striffler, 75 years old, died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 28, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. Chris was born in Harrington Park, NY and grew up in Northern New Jersey. He was a 3-sport athlete at Butler High School (NJ) and attended West Virginia Wesleyan University. While in New Jersey, Chris was an active coach and team follower for his daughters' activities while establishing his independent sales rep business. Along with his late father-in-law, Walter J. Buck, Chris was a Master Mason and member of Silencia Lodge #168, Butler, NJ. He was active in JayCees and the Lions' Club while serving on his local neighborhood community association board. Chris and his wife, Edna, became permanent residents of Lookout in 1986. He continued building his business, traveling throughout western Pennsylvania and New York State representing various steel manufacturing companies. Chris established relationships with the people he worked with and the places he traveled to, frequently sharing his experiences (and restaurant recommendations) with his family. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Honesdale, and he enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and travelling with the Good Times Gang. With a new generation of active grandchildren, Chris continued his participation and support of their activities traveling back and forth between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He cheered at local sporting events, school plays, concerts, and church pageants for his "PA grandchildren", Kate, Stacy, Christian and Kyle, while his "NJ grandchildren", Megan, Davey, Emily, Brett and Jason, kept his busy at football games, dance recitals, and swimming events. Most recently Chris was able to enjoy watching them at West Point football games and the 2013 Boston Marathon. He proudly attended every graduation from preschool to college. While Chris was a man of few words, every member of his family was aware of his pride in their accomplishments. Chris is survived by his devoted wife, Edna, and his four daughters, Cathyann Striffler-Gubar, Diane Rothamel and son-in-law Scott, Suzanne Mansfield and son-in-law Jim, Chrisann Striffler-Tetkoski and son-in-law Joe; grandchildren Kate and Stacy Mansfield, Christian and Kyle Tetkoski, Megan and Davey Roberts and Emily, Brett and Jason Rothamel; great granddaughter Lilah Grace Glosenger; cousin Eleanor Krake. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Marie Striffler and his son-in-law, Stephan Gubar. His family will receive visitors at First Presbyterian Church, Honesdale on Tuesday, December 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Michael Lyle officiating. A Masonic Service will be held at 2:00 PM at the church. Friends are also invited to share stories and memories with the family in the First Presbyterian Church Chapel following the 4:00 PM service.
