Obituary of David S. Hauenstein
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Hauenstein Jr., 95, went home to be with his Lord April 29, 2014. Born on December 3, 1918 on the family farm in Creamton, he was the son of David and Julia Hauenstein. He is survived by his loving wife Violet Varcoe Hauenstein. Married in June 1946 they would have celebrated 68 years together. The couple have three sons, David III and wife Barbara Sheard Hauenstein, James and wife Ruth Richner Hauenstein, and Leonard and wife Elizabeth Gardner Hauenstein, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Surviving are two bothers Delbert and Gordon, a brother Dwight died in September 2012. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much and will be deeply missed.
David worked hard all his life working in the woods cutting timber and logs with his father as a young man, and selling props to the mines. His passion was making maple syrup every year until recently and was always willing to share his knowledge with aspiring young sugar makers. An avid poultryman, he raised pullets and later was in the laying business selling eggs to Agway for many years. He was an expert carpenter and talented wood worker joining with his son Leonard in the building trade for many years. David loved the soil and could make anything blossom and grow that he planted, always growing a large garden each year. David was an outdoorsman and skilled woodsman who enjoyed passing these traits to his sons and grandsons. A man of few words he was always there to help and lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends. He loved his Church in which he served as a trustee for many years and spearheaded the many building projects, remodeling the parsonage, CE building, Church Sanctuary and his last endeavor remodeling the Church basement and kitchen in 2005.
The funeral will be Saturday May 3, 2014 from the Aldenville Baptist Church with calling hours for his many friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with the services at 11:00 A.M. followed by interment at the family cemetery in Riverdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to
