Obituary of Edward S. Brooking

Edward S. Brooking, Jr., 67, of Preston Township, Pleasant Mount, PA, died Saturday June 21, 2014 in the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, the former Joyce A. Gardner. They were married on July 26, 1969. Born July 29, 1946 in Pleasant Mount, he was the son of the late Edward S. Brooking Sr. and Gwendolyn Starbird Brooking. Ed was born and raised on the family dairy farm where he lived his life. He graduated from the Forest City Regional School District in 1964. Ed milked cows for 55 years. He started out by helping his mom and dad, and was proud to own and operate a third generation working family farm. Ed was an excellent dairyman and was well respected by others in the dairy business as an honest and hardworking farmer. He was a member of the Registered Holstein Association of the USA, the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, Future Farmers of America, the American Dairy Association, Dairylea Cooperative, and had the distinction of serving as President of the American Dairy Association. Ed also served as President of the Wayne County Cooperative Extension, and was a nineteen year member of the Wayne Highlands School Board where he held the position of Vice President for a time. Ed was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need; he was the best neighbor. Family was of the greatest importance to him; he was so proud of each of his children. Ed enjoyed his "hilltop view," and he always had a smile. He is also survived by four children: Michele Brooking of Starlight, PA, Edward S. Brooking, his wife Becky, and their son, E. Spencer Brooking of Easton, PA, Brian Brooking of Williamsport, PA, and Beth Brooking of Bloomsburg, PA; a sister: Norma Worobey of Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Edith Burrows. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with Duane Giles officiating. Friends may visit on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed's memory to Northern Wayne Volunteer Fire Company, RTE 370 Crosstown HWY, Lakewood, PA, 18439.
