Marvin Nicholson Hunt of Cherry Ridge, died on July 4th in Honesdale. He was 93. Born on March 6th, 1918 in Oxford, North Carolina, Marvin resided in Wayne County since 1950. In 1939 he enlisted in the United States Army. Honorably discharged in 1941, Marvin then joined the United States Navy, where he served on the U.S.S. Intrepid during World War Two. He worked in the carpentry & sign painting shop and was honorably discharged as an Ensign 1st Class in 1945. Marvin married Elinor Wilhelmina Gaughan on January 2, 1944. They settled in New York City, where he worked for Bell Telephone. In 1950 they moved to Honesdale, where he built Hunt's Motel & Trailer Court in part to house the many workers in Wayne County working on the gas line. In 1953 Marvin started Hunt Signs, run today by his son Roger and daughter-in-law Patty. He retired after twenty years serving as the foreman of the sign department at PennDOT. Marvin was also the proprietor of Hunt's Rides & Concession from 1964 until the mid 1980s. Preparing for a firemen's fair near White Lake, NY in 1969, he found himself in the middle of the Woodstock Festival. For many years Marvin entertained as Gizmo the Clown, performing for charity events at the Honesdale Lions Club, the Shriners and the Wayne County Christmas Bureau. Marvin was a member of the Shriners and a fifty year member of the Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph P. & O'Della Hunt, a brother Joseph W. Hunt, his sister Doris Evans, and his daughter Susan Catherine Hunt. Marvin is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Elinor W. Hunt of Cherry Ridge; son Roger D. Hunt of Honesdale; son Glenn A. Hunt of Pottstown; daughter Judy Shannon of Altoona; two daughters-in-law; a son-in-law; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There are no services. Marvin will be buried in his family plot in Oxford, Granville County, North Carolina at the convenience of the family.
