Anthony J. Spuches, 82, of Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home in Lake Ariel, formerly of Beach Lake and Honesdale, died Monday, October 27, 2014 after an illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara J. Spuches who died in 2002. Born November 11, 1931 in Jamaica, New York, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Adele Fiore Spuches. Anthony and his family moved from New York to Wayne County in 1977 and settled in Beach Lake. He and his wife owned and operated the Beach Lake General Store for many years. Anthony later moved to Honesdale and began working at Woodloch Pines Resort. In 1995, Anthony opened the well known BARTANS Family Restaurant between Honesdale and Beach Lake. He operated this business until his retirement in 2001. Anthony was a volunteer fireman with the Beach Lake Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping; but most of all, he loved his family. He is survived by three children: Noreen Cox and her husband Robert of Honesdale, Stacie Sergio and her husband John of Honesdale, and Anthony Spuches Jr. of Berwick, PA; a brother: John Spuches and his wife Joanne of New York, New York; a sister-in-law: Lena Spuches of Florida; and seven grandchildren: Robert A. Cox, Marie, Anthony, and Joseph Spuches, Anissa Meyers, Ariana Meyers, and Kacie Sergio. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 9:30 AM from the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 will Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary Magdalene Church. Friends may visit on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be held on Thursday in St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery, Honesdale.
