Thelma M. Rake, age 92, of Damascus, died Friday, October 2, 2015 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was married to the late Russell Rake . Thelma was born February 12, 1923 in Franklin, NY.. Prior to retirement she had been a contractor for the Wayne Highlands School District for many years. Thelma was a very religious person. She was a member of the Braman United Methodist Church and attended the Abrahamsville United Methodist Church. She was known as a fastidious homemaker and a great cook whose pies and baked goods were especially good.. Thelma could often be seen in her neighborhood on her golf cart. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother who was known to be there for everyone. Thelma is survived by a son, William Newport and his wife Barbara of Equinunk, a daughter, Joan Mac Peek and her husband Charles of Damascus; a son in law, Harold Eldred of Damascus, son in law, Sylvester "Butch" Conklin of Hawley; daughter in law, Joan Rake; brothers, James Kenyon and Raymond Kenyon; sisters Ethel Choinski of Milanville, Dorothy Rich of Cherry Valley, NY and Gladys LaBar of Lookout; grandchildren, Veronica Houghtaling and her husband Louis of Damascus, Charles Mac Peek Jr of Equinunk, Sheri Newport of Huston Texas, Sheila Sipple and her husband Garry of Hankins, NY, Joseph Gombita and his wife Lisa of Waymart, Michael Gombita and his wife Kelly of Equinunk, Jeffery Gombita of Eldred, NY, Attorney William Newport and his wife Dr. Kristina Newport of Lancaster, Pa, Natalee Cote and her husband Daniel of Levittown, Pa, Jeffrey Hiller of Greeley, Kim Stinnard of Honesdale, Tyler Rake and his wife Alison of Florida, Corey Rake of Syracuse, NY, Jesse Rake of Equinunk, Wyatt Rake of Tyler Hill; twenty four great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mabel Kenyon, children, Raymond Rake, Allan Rake, Patricia Conklin, Florence Eldred; brothers, Floyd Perry, Chauncey Kenyon, Robert Kenyon, Daniel Kenyon; grandchildren, Cris Bergman ; great grandchild, Levi Houghtaling. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 3:00 PM in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street Honesdale, Pa with the Rev. Jean Blackie officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Interment will be in the Pine Mill Cemetery at a later date. .
