Obituary of Myrtle E. Appel

Myrtle Schuman Appel, 84, daughter of John and Edna Mae Toms Schuman passed away peacefully at her home with her husband of 67 years, Melvin and her daughters and son-in-laws, Cherie and Stephen Gilbert and Bonnie and John Korb by her side on December 15, 2015. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Karen Appel of Shalfont, Pa; her sister Kathryn Schuman and brother Orvis Schuman. Preceding her in death were her brothers Everett, Earl, Frederick and her son Earl John. Myrtle was a graduate of Damascus school. She was a dedicated worker to the family farm for many years. She cooked at the Fireside Restaurant in Dyberry Township for the original owners Gustav and Anna Pfund and later for owners Joseph and Kathryn Ranner. She also served in the same capacity at the Townhouse Diner and Clark's Sunrise Market in Honesdale . Myrtle was very proud of her vegetable garden and treasured her beautiful flowers which were always surrounded with a wide array of birds at its feeders. Grandma Appel will be missed by her six grandchildren; Andrew Korb, Christina Korb Rust and her husband Joseph, Michael Korb and his wife Tara, Matthew Gilbert and his wife Ellen, Terry Appel and his wife Stephanie, and Toby Hessling Rephard. Nine great grandchildren; Kayla Evans, Alexandra and Andrea Korb, Jacob and Liam Gilbert, Sophia, Maxx, and Abigail Rust, Veda Catherine Korb, Ash Appel, and Logan and Mason Rephard. Also left behind is her devoted Niece Karen Swendsen and several other nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Wayne Home Health Services and Wayne Memorial Hospice. Special thanks to Diane Popovich, Jeane Dubois, Karen Shaffer and her devoted care aide, Donna Highhouse Friends may call on Friday, December 18th, 2015 from 11:00 am-1:00pm at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral. Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale,Pa. A Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mary Bryant of the Cold Springs Baptist Church officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 712 S Keyser Ave,Taylor, Pennsylvania 18517 or the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr, Honesdale, PA 18431.
