Roy F. Perkin, 68, of Beach Lake died Sunday January 1, 2017 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Alicia Cornell. He was born in Callicoon, NY to Irene Larsen Perkin and the late C. William Perkin and was a graduate of Honesdale High School, Class of 1966. Roy served as an MP for the United State Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life, and retired from M.C. Bodick Construction of Honesdale. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Honesdale Aerie. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephew. Roy loved caring for his home and property and always enjoyed parties at Perkins Pond. He was an accomplished woodworker and made many pieces of furniture for his family. In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by a son, Warren Cornell and wife Kim of Fayetteville, NC, daughter Beth Meyer, Honesdale and Cord Meyer, Tyler Hill; a brother Robert Perkin and wife Patricia of Ledgedale, a sister Janis Daniels and husband Jeffrey of Beach Lake; granddaughters Isabella Cornell, and Alexa and Navarah Meyer; nieces Jennifer Brown and husband Matt, Amanda Dirlam, Olivia Rickard and husband Michael, Emily Daniels, and nephew Eric Daniels; and brother-in-law William Surdovel, and great nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister Penny Dirlam. The family would like to thank the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital who were so kind to him throughout his illness. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may visit from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Arthur A Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main St, Honesdale. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Roy's memory to the Oncology Department at Wayne Memorial Hospital, 601 Park Street, Honesdale.
