Obituary of Ruth A. Wenk

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth Arlene Wenk, 89, of Lakewood, PA passed away Sunday October 29, 2017 at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New York, the daughter of the late Asa Allison and Jane Truhune, and graduated high school in 1945. She worked on Wall Street in Manhattan where she met her late husband, Martin Wenk, whom she often described as her "one and only." Ruth was also welcomed into heaven by her brother, Asa 'Sonny' Allison; daughter, Jane Wormuth; and her two sons, Matt and John Wenk. Ruth leaves behind her brother, Edwin Allison of Chenango, NY; two sons, Mark Wenk and his wife Helen, and Luke Wenk and his wife Debra; and her 'special daughter' Donna Michalizysen and husband Bob Whitaker all of Lakewood, PA. Ruth is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Suzanne Wormuth; Jody Evanitsky and husband Theron; Jennifer Chuplygin and husband Alex; Brad Wenk and his significant other Sarah Zedar; Heather Williams and husband Shawn; Megan Wenk and fiancé Eric Tomkins; Allison Wenk; and John Wenk and his partner Mia Lussier. In addition, she is survived by her five great grandchildren, Trysten Evanitsky, Zander and Tessa Chuplygin, and Brayden and Maci Williams. Ruth dedicated her life to working for her community; she was employed as a tax collector for Preston Township for 27 years. She was a founding member of the Northern Wayne Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth also volunteered at the Northern Wayne Fire Company, Northern Wayne Food Pantry, and was a founding member and volunteer of the Northern Wayne Community Library. She was also a member of the Ladies Sewing Club that met at the library. Ruth continuously gave back to her community, expecting nothing in return. She fiercely stood up for the things that she believed, and often wrote "letters to the editor" in order to make her opinions known. Ruth will be remembered as one of the most loving, selfless, and caring souls to have walked this earth. She was as tough as nails, and never complained about the hardships that life had handed her. Instead, she surrounded herself with her family and friends; frequently around her kitchen table, where there was always an open spot for anyone that wanted to join. And if you were really lucky, there would be a slice of her apple pie waiting there for you. Her legacy will live on through her family, who loved her more than any words could convey, but "other than that, everything's okay." Private memorial services will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ruth's name to the Northern Wayne Community Library, Northern Wayne Fire Company, or the Northern Wayne Food Pantry. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main Street Honesdale, Pa 18431.
