Marie K. Ward, 92, of Damascus, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Kenneth Brooks Canfield in 1948 and John C. Ward in 1993.
Born on January 5, 1919 in Carley Brook, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Philippine Munger Riefler.
Marie was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Her church was very important to her. Marie served as Past President of the Wayne County AARP, and was a Past Member of the Advisory Council for the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging. Marie was involved with the Damascus Seniors and the Card Players of Callicoon. She was a talented woman who enjoyed playing the piano, singing, writing poetry and quilting. Marie was fond of her flower garden, and was known for her dancing abilities of many forms including tap dance, jitterbug, and country line dancing. Above all, Marie will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by nine children: Jean Carney and her husband Earl of Sayre, Sylvia Crum and her husband Wilbur of Sayre, Carolyn Kennedy and her husband Michael of Athens, Betty Robbins and her husband James of Towanda, Kenneth Canfield of Galilee, Barbara Morse and her husband Marshall of Klamath Falls Oregon, Karl Canfield and his wife Susan of Galilee, Jacqueline Thol and her husband Jeffrey of Honesdale, and Marion Thol and her husband Lance of Tyler Hill; twenty six grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by a son, John Ward; four siblings: John Riefler, Hazel Bellamy, Wilbur Riefler, and Olive Canfield.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with Rev. Jean Blackie, Pastor of the Damascus United Methodist Church officiating.
Friends may visit on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Interment will be Wednesday in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galilee.
