Obituary of Benjamin F Garing

Benjamin (Ben) Garing Jr. ,91, of Honesdale passed away at Sacred Heart Hospice , Dunmore on Thursday, May 3, 2018 following a brief illness. Born October 29, 1926 he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Carrie Garing. He attended the local one room school while working on the family farm. Ben married the love of his life, Esther Irene Zantowsky on his birthday in 1947. They were married for 65 years before her passing in 2013. Working side by side on the family farm with his wife, they retired in 1990 from milking cows but Ben still loved to work the land and tend to his chickens well into his 80's. He could always be found tinkering with one thing or another. His family often referred to him as the "Master Tinkerer". Since Ben and Esther always did everything together, farming, traveling to all of the states and some foreign countries, they also were baptized together into the Christadelphian faith on August 26, 1962. Working side by side they, along with other Christadelphian Brothers and Sisters, helped to build the Christadelphian Chapel located at 204 Water Street in Honesdale and to the very end of their lives remained devoted members. Ben is survived by his daughter, Irene L. Panfili and her husband Dennis; a son, Walter J. Garing and his wife Nancy; a grandson, Shawn P. Garing and his wife Rebecca; two great grandsons, Tyler S. Garing and Logan C. Garing; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Emerson F. Garing and Walter F. Garing. His family would like to give a very special thanks to his care givers, Corinne and Lily, doctors, and hospital staff who helped in his time of need. Also to his church family and many neighbors for their visits and prayers, especially his longtime friend, Clarence (Junie) Rickard. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main Street Honesdale, Pa. Friends may visit the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Indian Orchard Cemetery.
