Vernon J. Hiller, 88, of Torrey passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. He is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 64 years, the former Viola M. Hansen. They were married May 16, 1954. Born June 12, 1929 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late John W. Hiller and Dorothy M. (Mills) Hiller. Vernon was a hard working and successful dairy farmer for many years. He also served as an Oregon Township Supervisor for several terms. In addition to farming, Vernon was employed at Bailey's Furniture, ChromaTube, and the Wayne County Courthouse where he worked in the maintenance department. Vernon was a member of the former Torrey United Methodist Church, and the Smith Hill United Methodist Church. He served in the US National Guard during the Korean Conflict. More than anything, Vernon was a dedicated family man. He will be forever loved and remembered always. He is also survived by eight children: Virginia M. Bortree of Hamlin, Vernon M. Hiller and his wife Sarah of Girdland, Kenneth C. Hiller and his wife Tammy of Beach Lake, Richard A. Hiller and his wife Debbie of Creamton, Robert M. Hiller and his wife Mary of Torrey, Karen S. Elmore and her husband Barry of Torrey, Brenda J. Schmitt and her husband Mark, and John A. Hiller and his wife Kelly of Torrey; a close friend of the family, Amy (Brush) Green of Lake Como; a sister, Shirley Blum of Equinunk; 28 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. Vernon was also preceded in death by a son, Peter D. Hiller in 1989; a son-in-law, Ronald Bortree; a daughter-in-law, Nancy (Johannes) Hiller; a brother, Clifford Hiller; and sister-in-law, Lois Hiller. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in The Beacon Family Center at Calkins Baptist Church, 527 Calkins Road, Milanville, PA with Pastor Lane Jones officiating. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 5:00 -8:00 P.M. in The Beacon Family Center at Calkins Baptist Church. Interment will be Friday in Smith Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vernon's 12 grandsons. Arrangements are attended by Arthur A.
