Frank "Chick" Smith , 88, of Damascus, Pa passed away peacefully at his home on October 25, 2018. He anticipated the joyful union with his Lord and his wife, Margaret who died July 27, 2018. A Honesdale native, born in 1930 as the first child of the late Frank and Leona (Whitmore) Smith. Chick married Margaret VanDeLinde on January 9, 1954 at the Calkins Union Church. Chick attended Honesdale High School and obtained his GED while in the US Army. He enlisted in the National Guard when the guards were activated during the Korean War. He trained recruits for combat while in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant first class soldier. Chick bought the Galilee farm in 1954 and farmed dairy cows and various animals for 34 years. He continued to support the 4-H groups throughout his lifetime. He and Margaret were the previous owners at The Midtown Cafe, Narrowsburg NY for 10 years. Chick retired from the Wayne Highlands School District as head custodian for 11 years out of the 19 years of service. The1994-95 HHS yearbook was dedicated to him. He worked at the Damascus Middle and High Schools. He and Margaret were awarded PA State Grange Membership accomplishments of 10 years. Chick was an avid beekeeper for over 50 years. He was a member of the Wayne County and Sullivan County Beekeepers. He was a master-organic gardener and exceptionally knowledgeable of fruit trees. Chick raised and raced pigeons amongst raising capons and enjoyed hunting season. He belonged to the Galilee Hunting Club and Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club. After retirement Chick enjoyed fishing trips with friends and family to Thousand Islands, Quebec, Canada and various local places. He is survived by his four children; Kevin Smith of PA, Kenneth Smith of PA, Kendall Schwab of NY, and Kimberly Orr of KS; siblings, Jerome Smith of VA, Ronald Smith of PA, and Donna Cotton of MA; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Smith; siblings, Emerson Smith and Carol Schaeffer. His family sincerely thanks the excellent care of the Home Health Nurses, the Hospice Nurses ,Staff, and Volunteers. Pastor Rodriguez and members of the Abrahamsville United Methodist Church. The Lookout Firehouse and Arthur A, Bryant Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Lookout Firehouse on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 PM. Interment will be held in the Hillside Cemetery at the convenience of the family in the Spring.
