Richard Byrd Baker, 83, of Equinunk, PA, died Monday, February 6, 2012 in the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Janet Young. They were married on November 10, 1956. Born on September 25, 1928 in Abramsville, PA, he was the son of the late William and Oressa Bush Baker. Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Honesdale Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. Dick was an automotive mechanic, and he also enjoyed the craft of woodworking. Dick enjoyed his family and grandchildren above all else. He is also survived by three children: Karen Sherwood and her husband Gerald of Damascus, Timothy Baker and his wife Denise of Utica, New York, and Tina Diehl and her husband Andrew of Damascus; four grandchildren: Francesca and Katrina Baker, and Marissa and Brett Diehl; two sisters: Vera Duke of Kingston, New York, and Katherine Adams of New Port Richey, Florida. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Baker; and four siblings: Bertha Highhouse, Walter, Kenneth, and James Baker. Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. Friends may visit on Friday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. Spring Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galilee. Memorial Contributions may be made in Dick's memory to the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center Hospice 1111 East End Blvd. Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711
