Mahota Ruth Phillips Reed, 54 of Honesdale,PA passed away suddenly at her home on Friday, December 04, 2020. Mahota was born on March 23, 1966 in Alexandria, VA and soon relocated to Honesdale where she spent most of her life. Mahota was extremely hard working and took great pride in taking care of others, especially the elderly while previously working at her mother's nursing home Cozy Corners and most recently at Step by Step, both of Honesdale. She loved baking, crafts, and watching Hallmark Movies. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandson and their long weekends spent together. Mahota played an active role volunteering in her community and enjoyed coaching cheerleading. When Mahota wasn't working or volunteering within the community, she could be found up at the barn bailing hay with her Husband. Mahota was a loving woman with a kind soul and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mahota was predeceased by her father, William Phillips. She is survived by her beloved Husband of 21 years Herb Bates, her three children, Joseph Reed of Keansburg, NJ, Steven and Stephanie Reed of Middletown, NJ, and Ashley Reed of Linwood, NJ, her stepson Jeremy Bates, and her grandson Parker, as well as her mother Phyllis Phillips of Honesdale, her brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Amy Phillips and her nephews Evan, Carter, and Grey of Ann Arbor, MI as well as countless other family and friends. Due to the current pandemic, the family would like everyone to know that despite their desire to have everyone who loved Mahota pay their respects, arrangements have been made private at this time however, a Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date. The arrangements were made under Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 Main Street, Honesdale.
