Robert A. MacDowall, 83 of Honesdale, died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at home surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Riefler MacDowall. They were married on October 18, 1949
Born on October 1, 1928 in Dallas, Pa he was the son of the late Hugh and Hazel Goss MacDowall. Robert served in the United States Army during the Cold War. He was a truck driver who loved to drive his truck across country. Robert was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Honesdale and belonged to the Lutheran Brotherhood and served as a Sunday School teacher. He was a Boy Scout leader at the Carley Brook School until the school's closure. Robert loved animals especially birds. He was a caring husband, father, son, and brother who will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by a son, Dr. Robert J. MacDowall and his wife Sophie of Kensington, MD; two daughters, Kathy Davis and her husband William of Milton, Pa; Sharon Gill and her husband Darryl of Equinunk and; a brother, Harry MacDowall and his wife Barbara of Forest, VA; three sisters, Flora Murray of Camp Hill, Pa, Laura Noonan and her husband Thomas of Ft. Worth, TX, and Elsie Lois Bachota of Orlando, FL;five grandchildren, Lauralee Maxwell and husband David, Nicole Wagner and husband Michael, Eve Lynn Collins, Gerald Collins, Laura MacDowall; two step-grandchildren, Emalee Gill and Daniel Gill; two great grandchildren, Noah and Faith Maxwell.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Malcom MacDowall, Allan MacDowall, Douglas MacDowall; a sister, Louise Risse. Bob was also preceded in death by a son in law, David A. Collins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the St. John's Lutheran Church, Honesdale with the Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter officiating. Friends may visit the church from 1:00-3:00 PM. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Honesdale. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A.
