Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris (Welsh) Bryant peacefully passed away on January 10, 2021. She had been residing at Bethany Village, Bethany, Pennsylvania. Doris was born on April 12, 1925, in Tyler Hill, Pennsylvania, to Russell and Roberta (Lord) Welsh. She graduated from Damascus High School in 1942. Shortly afterward, she pursued nursing studies at Binghamton General Hospital. She returned home following six months of training, and began working for Dr. Howard Patton until she started her family in l949. As Doris raised her family, she also actively participated in the family's dairy farm and her local Calkins community. A devoted volunteer, she was a former member and leader of the Labor Grange, the Ladies' Aid, the Farm Bureau (formerly the Pennsylvania Farmer's Association) and the Beach Lake United Methodist Church. Renowned for her cooking, baking, gardening, and card sending, Doris is fondly remembered. She frequently visited and brought food to her neighbors in need and cherished hosting family meals. Even at 90, Doris continued to bake and donate 15 of her famous pies for the election-day bake sales at the Grange Hall. The name Doris means "gift", and surely she was a gift to her many family and friends who loved her and will sorely miss her. Doris is predeceased by her husband, Donald Bryant, her sister, Gladys Mang, and her grandson, Michael Bryant. She is survived by her children: Constance Moser (Glenn),Wilmington, NC, William Bryant (Debra) Calkins, PA, and Nancy Neely (Fred) Loysville, PA; grandchildren Carrie Bomgardner, Zachary Bryant, Emily Montgomery, Amanda Lightner, Burke Neely, and Clark Neely and two step grandchildren, Ashley Moser and Anesley Hartzke, as well as 15 great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to the pandemic, funeral arrangements will be private and at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Doris's life will be held in the future. Donations, in Doris' memory, can be made to the Michael J. Bryant Memorial Fund, c/o The Wayne County Community Foundation, 214 9th St., Honesdale, PA 18431 or The Calkins Union Cemetery Association, c/o Judy Warnott 243 Calkins Road, Honesdale, PA 18431.
