Obituary of Edward C. Mayer

Edward C. Mayer, 84 of Bethany Village died Thursday, March 29, 2012 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Margaret Vargues, his high school sweetheart. Born on October 29, 1927 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Christopher and Catherine Faber Mayer. He was formally of North Bergen NJ, Fawn Lake Forest Hawley PA and West Palm Beach Florida. Before retirement, he worked in New York City in the textile business. He was a veteran of the Navy. Edward was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was an avid golfer who was a past member of the Honesdale Golf Club before relocating to Florida. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Mets, Giants and golf. He is also survived by two daughters : Karen and Samuel Solomon, May's Landing, NJ, Margaret and Michael Nolan, Waymart; four sons : Christopher and Roberta Mayer, Waldwick, NJ; John and Lori Mayer, Yardley, PA, Thomas Mayer, Newtown, PA and William and Lori Mayer, Fairlawn, NJ; 12 grandchildren, and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Mayer and a brother Albert Mayer. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with Rev. Debra Dailey officiating. Friends may visit on Saturday from 2:00 until the time of service.
