Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter Bryant Marion, 91, of Honesdale went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 27, 2022. He is survived by his wife Ella May Marion.
Walter was born in 1931 in Cherry Ridge the son of the late Helen and Edward Marion of Honesdale, Pa
Walter joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. While on furlough he met the love of his life, Ella May Rowles. Walter was 19 and Ella May was 15 at the time. He always said, "If it was not for the 1942 flood and bridge work we would have never met. Thank God for that bridge work."
Walter proudly served most of his time in the Navy aboard the destroyer mine layer, USS Thomas E. Frasier, as a First Class Gunner's Mate. He always had many fond stories to tell of his 4 years spent in the Navy. Upon his discharge from the Navy Walter and Ella May were married in Charleston, SC at the Citidel Baptist Church. Walter and Ella May returned home and created a beautiful life together , raising their two children, Walter worked for 41 years through three generations at Pratt's Decorator Showcase . He took great pride in every inch of flooring he installed.
What meant the most to Walter was spending time with family. He and his beloved wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids would travel with trailer and tent in tow for many years. He traveled to the Navy ship reunion where many cherished memories were made.
Walter loved his family and friends and would drop what he was doing to lend a hand never asking for anything in return. He was a teaser which meant he loved us. He loved us and made us laugh.
In addition to the love of his life of 70 years, Ella May Marion, he is survived by his children, Paula and Bennie Shaffer of Beach Lake and Paul Marion of Lake Ariel; grandchildren Melinda and Thomas Miller, Brandi and Eric Smith, Zaphaniah Marion, and Esther Marion; great grandchildren, Rachel Miller, Rebekah Miller, TJ Miller, Paul Marion, Zoey Ruup, Xakarii Marion, and Xendaiiah Marion; niece, Helen Marion Dennis and her husband Chuck Dennis; many in-laws.
Walter greatly loved all and they loved him.
