Richard Chmelik passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 31,2023 at the age of 61.Born in Colorado Springs, Co. on an army base, he was an "army brat" who had friends all across the world. He preferred to be called Rick or by his nickname "Slippery Rick". Rick served our country in the United States Navy. After his discharge he worked at EF Hutton, a finance company.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Chmelik, originally from East Islip, NY. He had 4 children: Joshua Chmelik, Ricci Chmelik, Santina Saprona, and Dustean Chmelik. He was blessed to have 4 grandchildren: Eden, Daimon, Killian, and Marius. Also surviving is a sister, Jojo Mcmahon and husband Jim of Westcliffe, Co. and a brother, Bert Steele and wife Gabby of Tennessee. He was predeceased by his mother Patricia , his father Richard, a brother Craig and sister Rhonda.

Rick loved to ride his motorcycle, and he belonged to a family motorcycle club. He recently took up golf with his buddies at Red Maples Golf Course in his spare time. Rick had an interesting and unique sense of humor. One never knew what he might say or do, all with the end goal of making his friends and family smile and belly laugh. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Rick's life in their own way. Raising a glass of your favorite drink in his memory would be appropriate.

There will be no viewing as his loving wife Jennifer refuses to honor his request to have him standing in the corner of the room with a glass of Bicardi and Coke in his hand so that he would appear natural to visitors. Rick's cremation is to be handled by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home , Honesdale, Pennsylvania.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center.
