Agnes A. Wilcox aged 90 of Calkins, Pa., died of peripheral artery disease on October 24th at Linwood Nursing Home, Scranton. She was a retired employee of Katz Underwear Company.
Born in Boyds Mills in 1933, Agnes (née Sobolak) was the youngest of eleven children born to Eastern European immigrants, seven of whom survived into adulthood. She spent her early years working on her parents farm where she formed a lifelong appreciation and love of animals. A graduate of Damascus High School, Agnes soon married her sweetheart, Jerald Wilcox upon his discharge from the Army. Preceded in death by Jerry (1978) and their only child, Thomas (2017), she was no stranger to heartache.
In her retired years she could be found meticulously maintaining her home and property, in which she derived purpose. In the end, she found death a friend, taking her home to those she knew and loved most.
Surviving are one grandchild, Jessica Wilcox, multiple nieces, including Marianne Wasman, and a nephew.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Dessin Animal Shelter, Honesdale, Pa.
