It is with great sadness that the family of James W. Hankinson announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, Pop, and great Pop.
James William Hankinson "Jim" of Bethany , Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born June 12, 1936 to Daisy Bates Hankinson and William Carlos Hankinson.
Jim graduated from Honesdale High School in 1954. He owned and operated Hankinson Electric Service until his retirement in 2000.. Jim was a member of Bethany Borough Council for 32 years. He was a 50 year member of Hose Company #1 as well a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge # 218 . He was a member of the Irem shrine, and the Wayne - Pike Shrine Club. Jim was a long-standing member of Bethany Community Church having been baptized there in 1936 and remained a member there until his death.
Jim enjoyed many years of camping with the Lamp Lighters Club and traveling throughout this beautiful country. He enjoyed spending winters in Bradenton , Florida with his favorite snowbird Dottie!
Some of his favorite pastimes were to travel to the beach with his family, spending fun and memorable times with his grandchildren, and golfing with family and friends. A highlight of Jim's golf career was a hole-in-one at Honesdale Golf Club.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Dorothy "Dottie"Bailey Hankinson, whom he was married 67+ years.
Also survived by his children:William James Hankinson, and his wife, Diane, Karen Hankinson Nuschke, and her husband, Jack, Susan Hankinson Bates, and her fiancé Richard Shramko.
Grandchildren: Jessica and Gerard Miserandino, Chad and Brianna Hankinson, Andrea and Alex Lerch, Kate and Tanner Allen, Jd and Kayla Nuschke, Taylor and Rachel Bates, and Peyton Bates .
Great grandchildren: Garett ,Addison, Kopper, Connor , Colson. , Elliott, Tyler, Drew, Josie, James and Caden. And also many nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Petrie and Jean Treski.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Wayne -
Pike Shrine Club or Bethany Public Library., Bethany Pennsylvania.
The Hankinson family wishes to extend our sincere, thanks to the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospice, and all the caregivers who assisted Jim during his lengthy illness.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Bethany Community Church, Bethany, Pennsylvania.Visitation to start at 11 AM with the memorial service to begin at 12 noon.
Luncheon immediately following the memorial service in the adjoining church hall .
Interment to follow the luncheon at Bethany Cemetery.
