Obituary of Phyllis A. Phillips
Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis A. Phillips, who left us peacefully on July 12th, 2024, at the age of 81.
Phyllis was born in 1943 in Columbus, OH to Orville and Gertrude Stephenson. She briefly attended The Ohio State University before heading off for the U. S. Army. She completed her studies years later earning a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Marywood University. All of this bolstered her life of helping others. She worked tirelessly owning and operating Phillips' Cozy Corners assisted living facility for nearly 20 years.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Phillips and his wife, Amy, Grandchildren Joey Reed, Ashley Reed, Stevie Reed and his wife Stephanie, Evan Phillips, Carter Phillips, and Grey Phillips, and 3 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by her daughter, Mahota Reed and parents Orville Stephenson and Gertrude Stephenson Thompson.
Phyllis dedicated her life to the service of others, she managed to care for hundreds of people and give them a better existence and some peace. In her spare time, as an avid gardener, she never met a weed she didn't want to pull or a flower she didn't want to replant. While in the service and on a tour of the White House, she managed to have a conversation with President Lyndon B. Johnson. (She never told me about that, I found out when I was 50 and when asked about it, she said "He was an ass".) The grandkids like to say it was, "Always an adventure going out with Nana". If you had a yard sale, you could be sure Phyllis would stop by, eager to find a bargain.
It was her wish to forgo a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dessin Animal Shelter, in Honesdale, PA.
