On November 14, 2024 at the Vernon Township Fire Station blue and black flags were hung in memory of Charles MacPeek, Sr. who passed away on November 13, 2024 peacefully, with his family at his side. Charles was raised on the family farm in Sussex County, New Jersey. He worked his family farm and graduated from Sussex High School in 1952. He was a member of the Future Farm of America, an active member of the NJ State Police Safety Patrol, a member of the 4-H, and in 1954 he joined the NJ Volunteer Fire Department in Vernon, NJ. Charles was a very active member for 18 years with the fire department and served a term as fire chief. In 1958 he became a life member of the Sussex Co, Fireman's Association. Charles was married to Joan Newport MacPeek on March 24, 1957. In 1973 Charles moved his family to Damascus Township to farm. He retired from farming and worked at the Delaware Valley Job Corp as a boiler/maintence technician for 21 years. Charles could fix almost anything. He owned and drove a school bus and van for the Wayne Highlands School District. He continued to help his son on his farm for many years. Charles is survived by a son, Charles MacPeek, Jr; a daughter, Veronica Houghtaling and her husband Louis; grandchildren, Ian Houghtaling, Cody MacPeek, and Tessa Alkmen; greatgrandchildren, Anna Houghtaling, Cordelia MacPeek, and Callum MacPeek. Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Newpot MacPeek, grandson Levi Charles Houghtaling, and brother Harold MacPeek. Burial for Charles and Joan together will be made at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are attended by the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Honesdale, Pa.
