Jean Ruth Ostrander
April 10, 1935 – December 30, 2024
Jean Ruth (Highhouse) Ostrander passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2024. She lived on the family farm in Beach Lake that her and her husband Walter Lloyd Ostrander (1931-2012) owned and operated for most of her life. Jean married Walter in 1955. She was the daughter of E. Lawrence Highhouse and his wife Mildred (Robbins) Highhouse. She was born on April 10, 1935 in Honesdale, Pa. and graduated Honesdale High School in 1953.
Jean worked several jobs in the area including Katz, R & W Electric, The Methodist Home, Country Dawn and drove School Bus; however, helping run the Family-owned Ostrander's Orchard was one of her most cherished memories. She worked hard on the dairy farm milking cows while raising a family.
She was involved in The Beach Lake Free Methodist Church, The Welcome Lake Ladies Aid, and the Pomona Grange. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by four children: Steve and his wife Kathy Ostrander, Charles and his wife Donna Ostrander, Mark Ostrander and Sharon Ostrander Bates. She is survived by siblings: Larry Highhouse, James Highhouse and Doris Cory. Jean was predeceased by her husband Walter Ostrander and siblings: Beula Early, Chester Highhouse; and granddaughter Nichole Bates.
She was proud of her grandkids: Kimberly Gumble, Daniel Ostrander, Kevin Ostrander, Angela Ostrander, Jeremy Bates, Michael Bacon, Eric Bacon, Jebadiah Bacon, Brooke Bacon, and Alec Bacon. She loved seeing and spending time with her 10 Great Grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit Bryant Funeral Home in Honesdale, Pa on Thursday January 2, 2025 from 6 to 8 PM. An additional visitation will be on January 3, 2025 at the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church at 10 AM.
The Funeral will be at Beach Lake Free Methodist Church on January 3, 2025 at 11 AM. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
Burial will be Beach Lake, Pa. with a private graveside service in the spring.
Jean thanks all of the people that took the time to visit her at home while she was unable to get out and especially enjoyed the Christmas Caroling.
